Maintaining everyday foot care is essential in keeping the feet healthy. It is helpful to measure children’s feet frequently, as this will help in determining what the correct size shoe your child needs. As the feet grow, it is beneficial to wear shoes that have adequate room for the toes to move freely in. This can help to prevent uncomfortable foot conditions from developing which may include bunions and hammertoes. If there are existing medical conditions such as diabetes, it is important to be aware of any cuts, scrapes, or bruises that may be on the feet. Additionally, when the toenails are trimmed, cutting them in a straight line can possibly prevent ingrown toenails from developing. If you would like additional information about the importance of daily foot care, please consult with a podiatrist.

Everyday foot care is very important to prevent infection and other foot ailments. If you need your feet checked, contact one of our podiatrists from Bazzi Podiatry. Our doctors can provide the care you need to keep you pain-free and on your feet.

Everyday Foot Care

Often, people take care of their bodies, face and hair more so than they do for their feet. But the feet are a very important aspect of our bodies, and one that we should pay more attention to. Without our feet, we would not be able to perform most daily tasks.

It is best to check your feet regularly to make sure there are no new bruises or cuts that you may not have noticed before. For dry feet, moisturizer can easily be a remedy and can be applied as often as necessary to the affected areas. Wearing shoes that fit well can also help you maintain good foot health, as well as making it easier to walk and do daily activities without the stress or pain of ill-fitting shoes, high heels, or even flip flops. Wearing clean socks with closed shoes is important to ensure that sweat and bacteria do not accumulate within the shoe. Clean socks help to prevent Athlete’s foot, fungi problems, bad odors, and can absorb sweat.

Go barefoot – Our feet were not designed to be enclosed for all hours of the day. Try to periodically expose your feet to air.

How to Determine If You Have Flat Feet

Research has indicated there is a simple process to determine if you have flat feet. This is done by standing on a hard surface, and observing if your entire foot lies flat on the ground. When the inside of the foot is slightly elevated, it typically indicates that arches are present. There are common symptoms that are often associated with flat feet. These can include general foot pain and fatigue, increased risk of ankle injuries, and it may be difficult to balance and walk. It may be beneficial to wear orthotics which can help to support your feet and help to diminish aches and pains. If you have been born with flat feet, or have incurred this condition from an injury, it is strongly suggested that you are under the care of a podiatrist.

What Are Flat Feet?

Flatfoot is a condition in which the arch of the foot is depressed and the sole of the foot is almost completely in contact with the ground. About 20-30% of the population generally has flat feet because their arches never formed during growth.

Conditions & Problems:

Having flat feet makes it difficult to run or walk because of the stress placed on the ankles.

Alignment – The general alignment of your legs can be disrupted, because the ankles move inward which can cause major discomfort.

Knees – If you have complications with your knees, flat feet can be a contributor to arthritis in that area.

Symptoms

  • Pain around the heel or arch area
  • Trouble standing on the tip toe
  • Swelling around the inside of the ankle
  • Flat look to one or both feet
  • Having your shoes feel uneven when worn

Treatment

If you are experiencing pain and stress on the foot you may weaken the posterior tibial tendon, which runs around the inside of the ankle.

Possible Treatments For Arthritic Feet

Patients who are afflicted by arthritis in the feet are often aware of the pain and discomfort this condition can cause. This ailment may be treated with prescription medicines which may be helpful in reducing a portion of the pain. For more severe symptoms, surgery may be an option that can possibly correct the arthritis permanently. This type of surgery may include trimming or removing the affected bone. Additionally, the damaged joints may be fused together, and this may be beneficial in preventing them from rubbing together. If you feel you have arthritis in your feet, it is strongly suggested that you are under the care of a podiatrist who can properly guide you toward correct treatment options.

Arthritis can be a difficult condition to live with. If you are seeking treatment, contact one of our podiatrists from Bazzi Podiatry. Our doctors can provide the care you need to keep you pain-free and on your feet.

Arthritic Foot Care

Arthritis is a joint disorder that involves the inflammation of different joints in your body, such as those in your feet. Arthritis is often caused by a degenerative joint disease and causes mild to severe pain in all affected areas. In addition to this, swelling and stiffness in the affected joints can also be a common symptom of arthritis.

In many cases, wearing ill-fitting shoes can worsen the effects and pain of arthritis. Wearing shoes that have a lower heel and extra room can help your feet feel more comfortable. In cases of rheumatoid arthritis, the arch in your foot may become problematic. Buying shoes with proper arch support that contour to your feet can help immensely.

Alleviating Arthritic Pain

  • Exercises that stretch the foot can prevent further pain and injury and increase mobility
  • Most of the pain can be alleviated with anti-inflammatory drugs, heat, and topical medications
  • Massages can help temporarily alleviate pain.

It is best to see your doctor for the treatment that is right for your needs and symptoms. Conditions vary, and a podiatrist can help you determine the right method of care for your feet.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact one of our offices located in Detroit, West Detroit, Northwest Detroit, Sterling Heights, Hamtramck and Dearborn Heights, MI . We offer the newest diagnostic tools and technology to treat your foot and ankle needs.
